Ida B. Wells-Barnett

How this work helped shape America

Journalist, newspaper owner, and publisher Ida B. Wells-Barnett systematically investigated lynching, gathered evidence, and used print journalism to challenge false narratives used to justify racial violence. Even after a mob destroyed her Memphis newspaper office, she expanded her investigative and publishing campaign nationally and internationally.
