The contribution
How this work helped shape America
Formerly enslaved, Lynch Wormley established himself in Washington, D.C., as a hackney-carriage driver and then as the owner of a livery and delivery enterprise. Through transportation work and commercial relationships, he acquired multiple properties in the capital, including houses and stables. Wormley's business and real-estate holdings created an economic foundation later extended by his son James Wormley in the city's hospitality industry.
