How this work helped shape America

Born enslaved in Florida in 1856, Timothy Thomas Fortune became a printer, editor and one of the most influential Black newspaper publishers of his era. Through publications including the New York Globe, Freeman and Age, he created a national platform for reporting, political argument and business communication. Fortune also helped organize collective civil-rights advocacy through the Afro-American League.
